THQ believes that being 'linear' in a First-Person Shooter is not necessarily a bad thing.
Speaking to Strategy Informer regarding their upcoming FPS Metro: Last Light (sequel to 2010's Metro 2033), THQ's Studio Communications Lead Huw Beynon thinks that, provided they are done right, linear games allow for better experiences.

A countdown timer has appeared from publisher THQ teasing a "live action short film" for Metro: Last Light. It will be aired Thursday, May 24th which is ahead of E3 2012 which begins early June.
Metro: Last Light releases on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U and PC in 2013. It was expected to arrive this year but was pushed back by THQ. Just 9 days left to the "world premiere" movie.
