Battlefield 3, Xbox 360 lead October 2011 NPD
The NPD figures are in for US videogame sales, and according to Gamasutra, the industry failed to meet analyst expectations. Videogame software sales were up 3% from last year's October sales, far less than Wedbush Securities prediction of 14% and Sterne Agee's of 10-15%.

The multiplayer servers for NBA 2K11 are shutting down just 13 months after release, as successor NBA 2K12 released last month. This brings a close to the popular 5v5 My Crew action.
The feature, which didn't carry over into NBA 2K12, let 2K11 host full 10-player online matches. 2K is yet to announce if and when My Crew would return to the series in the future.

NBA 2K12 Legends Showcase DLC announced

2K Sports has announced in a press release that the first NBA 2K12 downloadable content, the "Legends Showcase," will be released this holiday season on Xbox Live Marketplace for 800 Microsoft Points and the PlayStation Network for $9.99 USD.
Rage kept from UK chart top by FIFA 12, Dark Souls enters third

Bethesda and id Software's apoco-shooter Rage has been kept away from the UK all format chart crown by EA Sports' FIFA 12, which stays numero uno.
Meanwhile last week's other new entries, Dark Souls and NBA 2K12, came 3rd and 12th respectively. Gears of War 3 came 4th, and racer F1 2011 5th.

The Nielsen Report has released its "Top 20 Games to Watch" list, which analyzes what games are the most highly anticipated for the holiday season, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 tops the charts.
