Bethesda now accused of sabotaging Prey 2 in attempt to buy out Human Head

The soap opera that is Prey 2 continues to rage as new allegations have popped up claiming Bethesda sabotaged the game in an attempt to buy out the game's developer Human Head.

Sci-fi first-person shooter Prey 2 is apparently getting thrown over to Dishonored's Arkane. Bethesda has been trying to get someone to take the project since splitting from Human Head in 2011.

Some Arkane devs don't want it, apparently. Other tipsters alleged that Obsidian was working on it at one stage, and Rebellion turned it down. Prey 2 is one orphaned game project at this stage.

Bethesda VP of PR and marketing, Peter Hines, has responded to claims he recently said an interview that Prey 2 had become a canned project. He never said it was over, just "not coming out this year."

In his clarification message, Hines said the interview had been "translated to Dutch, translated back to English." Bethesda said earlier in April Prey 2 had "not progressed satisfactorily".

Prey 2 seems to be suffering the same developmental turmoil of the original game, which took over a decade to be released. The game lost its developer, Human Head, and has been pulled from Bethesda's website. However, the company says there's a reason for its removal, and it's not due to cancellation.

The October 2011 release of Rage has been followed by a whole lot of silence from id Software and Bethesda over what lies ahead, if anything, for the post-apoco shooter.

Pete Hines says it's not atop the agenda right now but they're "looking at doing some things" with it; its future is "still TBD." When gamers talk of id the "first thing" mentioned is Doom 4.
