Ubisoft's Rocksmith in legal tussle over "progressive musical instruction"

The Rocksmith game from Ubisoft is getting hit on the flank by another court case, this time though its more than just what name it goes by. Guitar Apprentice says its infringing a patent.

They take issue with a "media system and method of progressive musical instruction" being used in Rocksmith, because they claim it's patent technology, which was filed October 2010.

UK band Rocksmith isn't too pleased that publisher Ubisoft is attempting to push ahead with a release for their guitar-based Rocksmith for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in the British Isles.

Kris Ford said there's been "no meaningful dialogue engaged" with Ubisoft. He called the UK release announcement "interesting but no surprise" - it's "presumptive to say the least".

The North American exclusivity for Ubisoft's Rocksmith ends this September when it finally drops the other side of the Atlantic and into British gamers' laps. No plastic peripherals.

Rocksmith isn't about hitting coloured buttons but actually learning to play a real guitar. It's for those "serious about guitar learning and playing." It's for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Ubisoft has announced that the European release of its guitar game, Rocksmith, has been pushed back to 2012 due to music licensing issues and other "external factors". The game will be released on time in North America on 18th October, 2011.
