Dead Island publisher Deep Silver, new owners of Volition and the Saints Row IP, have described themselves as a "small, guerrilla tactics company," with COO Geoff Mulligan adding they 'don't want to go triple-A'.

Mulligan jokes that they're "much better than the Activisions, EAs, and Ubisofts" out there because, while they may be valued at billions, Deep Silver "make money." They also acquired Metro: Last Light.

Volition began work on Saints Row IV shortly before The Third was completed, but a piece of DLC called Enter The Dominatrix never saw the light of day. The studio "didn't have enough time" for it.

However it lives on as many of the conceptual features have been brought over into Saints Row IV, but Volition plans to release a "kind of" Director's Cut with all ETD features post launch.

The Saints Row team over at Volition Inc. is "conscious of the fact" they've done all they can with the 3rd Street Saints and so will be drawing this 'saga' to a close with Saints Row IV - but it isn't over for the series.

There are still "a load of possibilities" to explore with the ballsy action sandbox series, but they've taken it "as far as we possibly can" right now. Not sure "what the hell else" they could do.

All the good that Volition's Saints Row: The Third did for publisher THQ commercially was effectively written off by the huge faceplant that was UDraw for Xbox and PS3, suggests Volition's Jim Boone.

Around that time Jason Ruben joined and THQ and things started looking up again, bolstering Volition's confidence, but they could already see the writing on the wall by then.

The guys and gals over at Volition Inc. heard rumblings that now might be the time those next-gen fancy pants console would be arriving on the scene, but they preferred to stick with Xbox 360 and PS3.

They remember their PS2 launch title days with Summoner and it was "one of the most stressful things we worked on." All that pressure of time and fighting tech quirks just wasn't worth repeating.
