Square Enix profitable thanks to Deus Ex: HR and Final Fantasy XIII-2

The accounts look good for Square Enix thanks to 2011's Deus Ex: Human Revolution and this year's Final Fantasy XIII-2, which helped bring in a profit of ¥6 billion. Last year lost ¥12 billion.

The figures were "favourable" thanks to those two "major titles" in the Square Enix line-up. No specifc sales numbers have been divulged for either release, but Deus Ex has at least shipped 2m.

The heavily anticipated reboot to Tomb Raider, which includes a new, younger Lara Croft, has been delayed into 2013, according to Crystal Dynamics in their official game blog.

US media research group Nielsen is reporting that the most anticipated games for American gamers were Assassin's Creed 3 and Halo 4. Other games hotly anticipated include Madden NFL 13 and Resident Evil 6.

Crystal Dynamics joined by God of War's Cory Barlog

Square Enix's house of all things Lara Croft - Crystal Dynamics - has been joined by God of War director Cory Barlog. He'll be involved in a new Tomb Raider project in San Francisco.

There's also a "yet to be announced new title." Barlog was writer/director for God of War 2 and creative director for Chains of Olympus, and steered Ghost of Sparta's narrative.

The upcoming Tomb Raider reboot will be enjoying a worldwide release, as announced by Crystal Dynamic on the game's official site. If that weren't enough, development has hit a milestone, as the game has reached alpha status.
